Emmanuel Barbault’s practice focuses on intellectual property, with an emphasis on fashion and art law. He advises clients on anti-counterfeiting policy, trademarks, copyrights, distribution agreements and licensing as well as international art transactions, including the primary and secondary markets. Mr. Barbault also advises fashion houses, designers and other fashion professionals on various multi-national matters.
Mr. Barbault started his career in France as a trademark attorney at the luxury brands Chanel and Louis Vuitton. He moved to New York to be the head of the anti-counterfeiting department of LVMH Fashion Division for the United States and Canada for 6 years before leading Marc Jacobs International Business and Legal Affairs Department for 4 years. Mr. Barbault joined Cahill Partners LLP in 2013.
Mr. Barbault's prior professional experience as a corporate counsel in an international business environment has allowed him to have a strategic and business-oriented approach to the practice of law.
He graduated from Panthéon-Assas University in Paris with a Masters in Intellectual Property and a Masters in European Law. He then received an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Benjamin Cardozo School of Law in New York City.
He is admitted to practice before the courts of the State of New York, the Southern District of New York and the Eastern District of New York.
